What's the Buzz About Swarm Inteligent Preparedness?

Preppr has received funding from the NYC Pandemic Response Institute to enhance community inclusion through swarm-intelligent exercise design, marking a major step forward in revolutionizing disaster preparedness.

How easily can we engage hundreds of organizations and households in exercise design?

Right now… not easily.

But what if we could?

We’re beyond excited to share some big news: Preppr has been awarded funding from the NYC Pandemic Response Institute to supercharge our community inclusion capabilities through what I call Swarm Intelligent Preparedness. To make sure these features deliver real impact, Preppr's Swarm Intelligent Preparedness is independently evaluated by Rachael Piltch-Loeb of CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy as the principal investigator.

This award is a huge step forward in our mission to make disaster preparedness smarter, more inclusive, and easier for everyone. With this support, we’re not just advancing Preppr’s tech—we’re creating tools that help communities work together better than ever before.

What is Swarm Intelligent Preparedness?

Swarm-Intelligent Preparedness uses AI to bring people and ideas together in a way that’s seamless and impactful. Inspired by how swarms in nature solve problems together, this feature allows users to:

  • Share insights and strategies across communities effortlessly.

  • Collaborate in real-time with conversational AI support.

  • Build disaster preparedness exercises that are tailored to each community’s needs.

Why Inclusion Matters in Preparedness

Disasters don’t pick favorites, and preparedness shouldn’t either. We’re dedicated to making sure every voice is heard and every community has the tools they need to prepare. By enhancing inclusion with our swarm intelligent features, we’re helping:

  • Small communities with limited resources get a seat at the table.

  • Diverse perspectives shape stronger preparedness plans.

  • Build a more level playing field for disaster readiness.

What’s Next?

This award isn’t just about funding—it’s proof that we’re onto something game-changing. With this support, we’re:

  • Breaking down barriers in communication and collaboration.

  • Offering user-friendly tools that scale to meet any community’s needs.

  • Helping communities not just survive disasters but thrive beyond them.

Imagine what that could mean for centralized government exercises.

Or healthcare coalitions and systems.

Or large corporations.

Or tribal entities.

What if we could engage down to the household level?

Could parents design and run low-lift but high-value exercises with their kids?

Could schools design their own exercises as part of larger, community-wide campaigns?

What if we networked these swarm exercise designs together… across regions? Across the country?

Making a swarm of swarms.

And what if the user could define the level of complexity for the design process? — from jargon filled for the master exercise practitioner to plain language for the middle schooler.

Keep an eye out for an upcoming post on how Swarm Intelligent Preparedness could enhance your preparedness efforts. Together, we’re taking preparedness to the next level.

Dear Status Quo

By

Justin Snair

The way we’ve always done preparedness is breaking down—and fast. With $218 billion in U.S. disaster losses in 2024 alone and pressure mounting from every direction, it’s clear that the status quo can’t keep up. This piece is a direct message to the outdated systems, legacy tools, and expensive processes still dominating the field—and a call for something better. Preppr is built for the people actually doing the work. Not to modernize the binder, but to replace it entirely.

What My 9-Year-Old's Game Taught Me About the Future of AI Enabled Disaster Preparedness

By

Justin Snair

I've spent years in emergency management, working with complex tabletop exercises (TTXs) designed to test response capabilities and identify gaps in emergency plans. I've seen exercises that took months to design and required teams of subject matter experts to execute. So imagine my surprise when my 9-year-old son created a TTX in just 20 minutes. Using Preppr.ai, our AI-powered emergency planning platform, he designed a tabletop exercise based on something he understood well: Monopoly. The familiar board game became his framework for exploring how communities respond when resources are limited and decisions have consequences.
