September is National Preparedness Month! In this issue, we're celebrating preparedness in action—from a new tool that helps agencies craft life-saving emergency alerts in minutes instead of hours, to new Ask Preppr Actions that transform months of exercise planning into streamlined workflows. Plus, two emergency management veterans share surprising insights from their Preppr deep dive..

September Highlight

Alert! Preppr's Preparedness Alert and Warning Template Generation Tool Goes into Beta - This latest Ask Preppr Action creates compliant emergency alert templates across multiple platforms (IPAWS, WEA, social media, mass notification systems) through two workflows: building templates from scratch with guided questions or analyzing existing incident reports. It supports four alert types (Imminent Threat, Public Safety, AMBER/Missing Person, and Developing Situation), provides multi-language translation, and uses a confidence-based quality assurance framework to ensure messages contain required protective actions and follow plain language principles. The tool is currently being put through its paces by a dedicated group of emergency communicators working to transform the future of emergency messaging—and we can’t wait to share the results!

New Features and Platform Updates

We've been busy making Preppr even more powerful and easier to use. Here's what's new on the platform for September 2025:

  • Dashboard Update - We’ve refreshed the Preppr dashboard to make it easier than ever to access all of Preppr’s emergency management tools in one place. Along with a new look, you’ll notice changes to how you navigate between features.

    • In the Exercise tab, you can quickly see your most recent exercises or start a brand new one. Click on each exercise to view its status and progress, or scroll to browse everything you’ve designed.

    • In the Documents tab, you can view everything you’ve uploaded, add new documents, view your past conversations, or start an Ask Preppr chat directly from this section.

    • In the Intelligence tab, you can revisit your saved briefs and gather new intelligence whenever you need it.

    • No matter which tab you’re in, you’ll always have the option to Personalize Preppr by updating your custom instructions. Team admins can also access the Admin Area for exclusive team controls.

  • [NEW] Ask Preppr Actions - Ask Preppr Actions are sophisticated prompts that deliver expert-level analysis in minutes with zero AI experience required. Here are the latest tools included in your subscription:

    • Preparedness Rapid Exercise Generator (Streamlined) - This ultra-fast tabletop exercise generator consolidates information gathering and automatic generation in 3 steps. It creates complete HSEEP-aligned discussion guides with scenario narratives, module injects, and functional group questions.

    • Generate Personalize Preppr Form Content - Analyze your emergency management documents (e.g., EOP, HMP) to automatically generate a detailed organizational and jurisdictional profile for direct use in the Personalize Preppr form.

    • After-Action Input Analysis - Analyze large volumes of raw input (from surveys, CSVs, or documents) against a reference plan or your own provided context to conduct an initial After-Action Review (AAR).

    • Document Insight Extraction - Extract key insights from documents using focused direct extraction, intelligent extrapolation, or a combination of both, based on a plain-language query.

  • [NEW] Share Your Intel Briefs - You can now save your favorite intelligence briefs directly to your Preppr dashboard and export them with ease. Simply select 'View' on any brief, then choose your preferred sharing method: download as PDF or Word document, print directly, or email the intel to stakeholders who need it.

  • [NEW] Export Exercise Design - You can now choose your preferred download format for HSEEP-compliant Situation Manuals directly from the Exercise Designer. Select from DOCX, PDF, CSV, or JSON to meet your agency's specific needs.

  • [NEW] Refer a Friend - You can now invite your friends to try Preppr with just a few clicks using the new ‘refer’ button next to your profile in the top menu bar.

Learning Lab

The Secret Sauce Behind Ask Preppr Actions - Ever wondered why Ask Preppr can generate high-quality analysis in minutes while other LLMs might give you something that sounds good but miss critical requirements? Behind the Ask Preppr Actions are more than 24 advanced techniques quietly working in the background. Instead of forcing you to learn the technical side of AI, Preppr turns those complicated steps into an easy, one-click tool. This allows professionals who aren't AI experts, like emergency managers, to generate reliable, life-critical communications safely and effectively by hiding the technical complexity behind an intuitive user interface. Curious how it all works?

Event Highlights

Preppr Unboxing: Expert Review - Emergency management veterans Hal Grieb PMP, MEP, CO-CEM and Jason Hoss recently conducted an in-depth review of Preppr. Both Hal and Jason bring real-world perspectives—they've designed exercises the traditional way and experimented with general-purpose AI like ChatGPT. Their key takeaway? Preppr handles the complex backend work—prompting, process management, quality control, and documentation—while successfully bridging the gap between emergency management EM and business continuity planning BCP in one unified platform.

Watch the full unboxing here to see what impressed these seasoned professionals!

Smart Wildfire Preparedness - Last month we announced that Preppr had joined a national wildfire prevention coalition. Now we’re discussing how AI can play a role in wildfire prevention and preparedness? Justin sat down with Partners in Wildfire Prevention to discuss how investments in the right tech can better help communities plan for emergencies.

The View from Mount Stupid: An AI Warning for Emergency Management

By

Justin Snair

This isn't just a critique; it's a cautionary tale from someone who has ridden the AI hype cycle from its breathtaking peak to its disillusioning valley. Before our field repeats the same mistakes we made with the internet—embracing a powerful tool while ignoring its capacity to create cascading crises—we must look at the forgotten history of our last technological revolution. This is a call for wise, responsible adoption, not a blind leap of faith from a summit of overconfidence.
